Editor's Note
Many of my mornings start at the Paddinghurst end of Paddo, with a loud “buongiorno” from Tommy at Apache Salute and a 6:30am coffee before my run. This week I'm sharing a chat I had with him the other day.
Also this week, the Good Food Guide hatted six Paddo restaurants, and not one of them is a pub. So which Paddo pub would you hat, and what do you order? Hit reply and I’ll share the best answers next week.
Last month of spring is here (what?) and there's lots below to fill the calendar. Enjoy the read.
Thanks,
Nicolas
This Week in Paddington
The cheeky end of Paddo
Tommy Paonessa has been making coffee in this corner of Sydney since the mid-90s: first on Victoria Street, now at Apache Salute on Boundary.
If you're a regular, he knows your name and your order, he painted his own wall and he wouldn't swap this end of Paddington for the hill. The full yarn is here (2 min read) (with thanks to Tommy)
Six Paddo restaurants hatted, and Porcine climbs to two
The Good Food Guide published its hats for NSW and the ACT last week. They confirmed what we already knew - Paddo has some damn fine eateries. Three hats for Saint Peter, which the Nylands have been running at various addresses in Paddington since 2016. Two for Porcine, which was one of only five restaurants to climb from one hat to two. And one each for Paski Sopra (OK it's about 60 metres from our border), Civico 47, 10 William St and new kid on the block, The Palomar. Again, nobody hats a pub feed though...personally, I'd love to see a ranking of best pub food in Paddington. Which pub would you hat and why? (hit reply) (Source: Local news - Paddington)
Halloween is done...now the Christmas lead up
Woollahra Council has published a list of events leading up to Christmas - and little surprise that Paddo leads the pack. Also, Paddo Night Out, organised by the cool kids at the Paddo Collective and Visit Paddington, is back on Thursday 19 November: From 4pm, stores, bars and restaurants will be providing experiences and offers to help you get the most out of Paddington (and eat, drink and spend too much). Here's the full list of who's taking part.
Two winning shots from Woollahra’s young photographers
Woollahra Council announced the various winners of its 2026 Youth Photographic Award and Short Film Prize. The award has run since 1994, with photos and short films from thousands of students and more than $2,000 in cash prizes. The two below won the Senior students and People's Choice awards, and the rest are worth a scroll. (Source: Woollahra Council news)
Have your say about Centennial Park's long-term plan: survey closes Sunday
The plan that will steer Centennial Park, Moore Park and Queens Park for years to come is open for comment, but only until this Sunday, 8 November. Greater Sydney Parklands runs all three parks, and this plan will guide how people use them and how the trust manages them. It will replace the 2018 version. This round gathers early ideas, and a finished draft should go on exhibition in mid-2027. Tell them what you value about the parklands and what you want for them here. Your art on a building site?
Woollahra Council wants local art on its streets, and it’s picked an unlikely gallery: construction hoardings. (That’s the temporary fence around a building site, not the garage you’ve been meaning to clear out since 2019.) Its Creative Hoardings Program is taking Expressions of Interest from artists at any career stage for 2027 to 2030. Anyone selected joins a pool, and their work may end up on hoardings across Woollahra. Applications close Thursday 10 December, 11.59pm.

For serious literary geeks only - Paddo library scraps overdue fines
Woollahra Council adopted its 2025-2026 Library Annual Report on Monday 26 October. It covers the council's three libraries: Double Bay, Paddington and Watsons Bay. The part you'll notice when you borrow: the libraries have dropped overdue fines, and loans now renew on their own. Across all three branches, staff ran 953 programs for more than 26,000 people. The loan and visitor numbers are in the full report. (Source: Woollahra Council news)
